Social Media & Staying Relevant

Unless you spend a significant amount of your time scouring the internet for blog posts, articles and tidbits of best-practice information, the world of social media can be a large and formidable place.

Having spent such time (too much to calculate) navigating the internet’s information abyss, I’ve come up with a list of my favourite resources for staying on top of the ever-changing social media marketing landscape.

Whatever your relationship with the social channels (perhaps equal doses of love and hate, or somewhere in between), I hope that you find the antidote to social media overwhelm in these resources.

Social Media Today

eNewsletter

Beginner to Expert rating: 5

This free daily newsletter delivers daily updates straight to your inbox and covers a wide range of platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Tik Tok and Google Adwords (plus SEO tips and marketing pointers).

One disadvantage is that the information is North American-focused, meaning that sometimes the features mentioned can take a little while to roll out in Australia. Despite this, most of the information can be used to inform current marketing activities and planning here too.

See more and sign up for the Newsletter at the link below.

Facebook Blueprint

eLearning

Beginner to Expert rating: 1–5

Facebook’s own education resource is a bit of a choose-your-own-adventure when it comes to the complexity of its content.

From simply setting up your Facebook page or Instagram account to successfully running ads, there is an article or training resource to suit.

While you can choose which content you consume by searching for topics of interest, some sections are more detailed than others. If you can find the time to spend, completing the whole course from start to finish will give you everything that you need to begin successfully marketing your business on Facebook and Instagram. You can also sit an exam for a formal certification, too.

Perpetual Traffic

Podcast

Beginner to Expert rating: 8

Created by Digital Marketer, Perpetual Traffic has been running since 2015 and has over 250 episodes, so you’ll find virtually everything that you need in this library to run small or multi-million dollar Facebook ad campaigns (and everything in between).

If you’re new to Facebook advertising, I recommend heading back to earlier episodes to get a handle on the basics. This will enable you to get the most out of the newer episodes and understand some of the more specific terminology. However, take some of the technical information in the older episodes with a grain of salt – some things have changed since their release.

See the homepage for Digital Marketer’s podcasts below.

Molly Pittman

Educator

Beginner to Expert rating: 1–8

I first discovered Molly when she was one of the hosts of Perpetual Traffic (see above). Although she no longer presents on the podcast, there are plenty of other ways to consume her content which is focused on Facebook and Instagram advertising.

The simplest – and my favourite – is to keep an eye on her Instagram page, where she shares lots of great resources and tips. Molly also shares free training courses from time to time. However, if you want to dive in deep you can sign up for an intensive mentorship program called Train my Traffic Person.

Hootsuite Blog

Blog

Beginner to Expert rating: 3-8

Hootsuite is a Facebook and Instagram scheduling platform that I’ve found a helpful tool at various times. However, my favourite resource is their blog which provides platform update and news information as well as some beginner-friendly strategy content.

Like Social Media Today, you can also subscribe to a newsletter, however their publishing of new content isn’t quite as regular.
